Didn’t see that coming…
Raving makes a pertinent point regarding the first in what will no doubt be a long, insipid line of “Marlon Brando In Heaven” newspaper cartoons. Let’s, as Diderot recommends, just give the hypothesis a little push.
* Atheists don’t get into Christian Heaven (although I’m beginning to get the feeling that becoming a Hollywood celebrity is some sort of loophole, as evidenced by last year’s treatment of Katherine Hepburn).
* The character of Vito Corleone certainly wouldn’t, by his own admission.
* What exactly is the nature of this “offer”?
* Wouldn’t going around Heaven being perpetually in character get really old after the first, like, 10,000 years?
* Is the cat dead?
* If not/so;
a) was the cat already in Kitty Heaven, and receive an immediate transfer as soon as Brando arrived?
b) did it arrive simultaneously as the victim of a ritualistic sacrifice to serve as Brando’s ironic icon for all eternity?
c) was it chosen because it just happened to coincidentally arrive in Kitty Heaven at or around the time of Brando’s death?
d) did God/Jesus just pull it out of their ectoplasmic hats to fulfil that particular role?
e) if humans and felines can happily coexist in Christian Heaven, does Kitty Heaven become redundant?
Well, you get the idea. Yeah, it’s just a stupid cartoon, but it highlights the ubiquitously retarded basis of the vast majority of religious sensibilities, most noteably that of the ludicrous “afterlife” concept, which are still rife throughout society.
